A Simple Way To Improve Your Google Pagerank

Written on 20 July 2007

Improve your what I hear you ask? Google Pagerank is a process the search engine’s use as a way of deciding which sites to choose to answer specific queries that internet users enter or search for. Google uses special algorithms (a finite set of well-defined instructions) to determine if a site addresses a users needs, by analyzing the content within a websites pages, specifically the keywords, and the number of inbound links. The more inbound links a site has, the more points it scores with Google. For each inbound link a website has, let’s say Google awards you 1 point! What do points make? Yes, your right, the more inbound links you have, mixed with the more keywords you have, the better your Google pagerank! Now, I know your getting all exited, and want to know how you can get as many inbound links as possible, and lucky for you, we are going to discuss that too!

Your Google pagerank is very important in the long term success of your website, because the higher your pagerank gets the higher your website climbs up the search engine’s listings, and the only other way to be on the first page of search results is by getting your cash out, and signing up to PPC search engines (more about that another day). So, how do we go about getting inbound links to your website, and more importantly, what sort of sites should I be having those inbound links from? Your main aim in getting inbound links is to choose popular sites that are in your market. By popular I mean sites which have a good or better page rank than yours, 50 links to less popular sites than yours will decrease your ranking, where as linking to 20 of the most popular sites will greatly increase your pagerank. You can find out a websites pagerank by simply using a script or piece of software from the web, most are free, and simply just a case of entering the url of the site you want to link with. One of the best FREE pagerank checkers out there is at http://www.google-pagerank.net.

Okay, so you’ve managed to find some sites with a good pagerank. Now how do we go about getting them to link to us? One of the ways most webmasters use, is to contact the owner, and ask them direct. Try to convince them that it would benefit both parties involved, and offer a link back from your site. Make sure you address the owner in a decent manner, and never pester them or bombard them with emails. The other way would be to comment on blogs, and leave a link on the site to your web address, although make sure the comment is worth reading and in touch with the subject your commenting about, otherwise the blogs writer might remove it! Another way to get incoming links, and one that works well yet takes time, is to write articles on subjects that matter to you, or that you have knowledge on, and submit them to article directories like http://www.ezinearticles.com . You simply fill your resource box, or author bio with your name and website address, and people who enjoy reading your articles will usually post them on their website, giving you the incoming links you need.

This method requires time and patience, and you need to make sure that all the articles submitted are done by you or a ghostwriter, and are not duplicate. The more unique your articles are, the more better your pages will show up in search engines such as Google. My method of getting a good google pagerank, and the one I use most is simply writing an article a day, submitting it to ezine articles, aswell as posting it on my website. I then search for sites or blogs that offer similar information to my post, and leave a comment, pointing users to that particular article on my website. If you do this as many times in a day, making sure that what you have to say counts, you will soon build up some good linking partners, and be on your way to a Google pagerank to die for!
